ARO PortaFunnel PortaStack Edition, Magnetic Docking Dosing Funnel, 54mm and 58mm.

A dosing funnel built as a base for other tools. Six custom arc magnets in the foot hold it square on a steel basket, and a steel docking ring in the lip gives ARO's PortaStack tools a target: the Auto-Level Tamper's flared sleeve self-centers in it, and the PortaStack Orbit Pro docks on it to spin. On its own it is simply a very good 18 mm funnel. Black or silver, 54mm or 58mm. Shipped direct from ARO Espresso.

Why it works

The arc magnets follow the circle of the basket rim, so magnetic force is spread evenly rather than concentrated at a few points. A silicone band retains both the magnets and the docking ring. The interior is polished and steeply sloped so grounds fall straight into the basket with almost no retention; the satin exterior hides fingerprints and scratches. The lip flares gently for grip.

The workflow

Funnel on the basket. Dose into it. Dock a distribution tool and spin, or use a manual WDT. Dock the Auto-Level Tamper and tamp through the funnel. To remove, tilt from one side to break the magnetic seal rather than pulling straight up.

Fit

18 mm total height, 15 mm above the basket lip. 58mm fits basket lips under 70.5 mm; 54mm is cut for Breville and Sage baskets under 63.5 mm and is not hands-free under the built-in grinder cradle on a Barista Express, Pro or Touch. Your basket must attract a magnet.

Care

Brush and wipe daily. Hand-wash in warm soapy water when needed and dry immediately.
