Breville & Sage Barista Portafilter and Filter Basket Fit Guide (54mm).

Breville and Sage share one engineering team and the same Barista line — Barista Express, Barista Pro, Barista Touch, Express Impress, Touch Impress, Bambino, Bambino Plus, Infuser, and Duo-Temp Pro — and every one of them uses a 54mm basket and a 3-ear portafilter. That's smaller than the 58mm commercial standard (E61, La Marzocco), so a "universal 58mm" part will not fit a Breville. Here's what actually does.

Bottomless (naked) portafilters, 54mm 3-ear

All of these are sold with a "54mm Fits Breville/Sage - 3 Ears" variant alongside other machine fitments — double-check you've selected the Breville/Sage option before checkout.

  • IKAPE Bottomless Portafilter, Solid Wood Handle — from $67.90. The baseline naked portafilter: watch the extraction form on the bare basket instead of guessing from the spouts. Also available in a 58mm Breville/Sage variant for machines modified to accept 58mm baskets.

Filter basket upgrade

The stock Breville basket is a dual-wall design built for pressurized pods and pre-ground coffee, not freshly dosed espresso. A precision single-wall basket is the single highest-leverage upgrade on these machines.

Tamper and grinder accessories

  • ARO 53.3mm Stainless Steel Tamper for Breville and Sage Barista — $45. Machined to 53.3mm (slightly under 54mm by design) so it covers the basket wall-to-wall with no gap for water to channel around. Machined from ferritic stainless so it docks magnetically in the Barista's built-in tamper holder, unlike most upgrade tampers which use non-magnetic steel and simply fall off. Fits all Breville/Sage 54mm baskets, stock or aftermarket.
  • ARO Single Dose Hopper for Breville Barista — $39. A drop-in replacement hopper for the Barista series built-in grinder, so you weigh and grind one dose at a time instead of running beans through the main hopper. The cheapest workflow upgrade on the machine.
  • ARO PortaMount Magnetic Silicone Portafilter Holder — $20. A magnetic parking spot for the portafilter between pulls; sold in a 54mm (Breville/Sage) and a 58mm size.
